27 here I come!

27 here I come!

Its 16 days and counting until I turn 27 years old! I am looking forward to being 27 because it’s an odd number and a multiple of 3, which for those who don’t know, 3 is my favorite number. The reason I feel in love with the number 3 is because its tied to my birth: I was born on the third week of the third month of the third year of the 1980′s and I was the third child born to my parents.

To mark the upcoming occasion I decided to get a “new” look. I tend to do “body modifications” for my birthdays. When I was 19 or 20 I got my ears pierced (cartilage). For my 23rd birthday I got my 2 hibiscus tattoos done. Last year I got my nose pierced, which didn’t last me very long (about 5-6 months) due to my allergies. This time around I plan on hopefully getting some more ink done along to my new haircut.

Growing up I tended to always have my hair short. This was very much the case when I was in 4th grade and convinced the hair stylist to give me a boy haircut (my mother had made the mistake of leaving me alone in the JcPenny salon with my grandmother). In high school I mostly had short hair because of the weather and to my being a hair model. As I got into college I kept trying to grow out my hair. Then in 2003/2004 I chopped off my hair again. I kept growing out my hair, especially in graduate school. Last year I had my hair down to my shoulder blades and decided I wanted to cut it to my chin. 5 months after that cut my hair had already grown back down to my shoulders (its crazy how fast it grows). Considering how much hair I have and how lazy I can be I decided that 27 was a good time to rock the short hair again. This is the end result:

As of yesterday afternoon

I received many compliments at work today from the other teachers and staff. It should  be noted that one of the 3 year olds did tell me that I wasn’t Ms. Aixa anymore since I had cut my hair, in fact I was now a different person altogether. I asked her if her friend was a different person since she had recently cut her hair, and she said no. I guess even 3 year olds have double standards.

I am looking forward to my upcoming birthday as well as Will’s (his is the day before mine). So to end this post I will reuse my post title: 27 here I come!
