interesting ‘boy’ Saturday

interesting ‘boy’ Saturday

Yesterday was very much a boy day. I say this because it was very much about two gatherings that were Will centered. The first thing we did was to go to West Fork to play poker with Will’s poker friends. Let me clarify that by we I mostly mean Will, since I was the third person to be eliminated from the tournament (but at least I wasn’t the first!).

I still don’t know how I feel about playing poker. I learned to play it back in college with my friends, but most of the time there was alcohol involved and we only played for fun, not for any money. Thinking back there wasn’t a time growing up that I ever saw my parents gamble…other than spending money on the lottery. Even then my parents never did much of that, but I do remember my maternal grandmother religiously buying tickets. Anytime I would go with her (as a child and as an adult) to the supermarket (as an adult it was because I would drive her to all her errands) she would buy some lottery tickets. I would feel apart of it because she would ask me to pick some numbers for her (I would always hope that I was picking out the winning numbers LOL). Other than playing the lottery there isn’t a gambling trait in my immediate family (although my Tata’s husband Papi Eo was a booky, but thats another story altogether). The point of all of that background is that because I never grew up around poker I don’t really understand the appeal of taking a chance with money. My line of thinking is that if I have $100-300 to throw into playing at a casino, then I would much rather spend it on pretty things for me or my loved ones. After I got eliminated I continued playing on my Nintendo DS Lite “Prof. Layton and the Curious Village”. I can blame my fabulous girlie Ivy for hyping up the game and getting me curious enough to buy it and get hooked on it.

Later that night we headed to Randy and Melissa’s house for the boys to watch football. What really happened is that the boys played pool (cut throat) while drinking and watching TV. They quickly grew bored of football and ended up watching “It’s always sunny in Philadelphia”. I had no intention of playing with the boys (plus I wouldn’t want to interfere in their boy time) so I played on my DS, had a beer and occasionally chimed in with a word of two in their conversation.

As you can already guess it was a very low key Saturday, but I don’t mind that one bit. Although I am looking forward to what this week will hold in store for me. :)
